Australia have the great advantage of being at home.
England have won, one test in Australia this century, outside of the 2010/11 stuffing.
And the convicts haven't won a series in England, for 20 years, now.

Have said previously that neither country is in a strong position at the moment and both are too dependent on a handful of players.
I have no problem with players who were born in one country and migrated to another with their parents as children taking up their new country loyalty.
Just think adults who move from one Test playing country to another should serve the old 8 year qualification period once they nominate for the new country.
Particularly cynical when players are recruited from poorer countries with the promise of riches. Which only appears to happen in England.
I struggle to recall any Test players for Australia who moved there as adults from a Test playing country.
Obviously S Africa was banned when Kepler Wessels moved to Australia initially to play World Series Cricket.
To be honest has ANYONE born in another country played for India, Pakistan, S Africa etc etc

If you have watched England this year, you will have noticed how poor and fragile the batting is. Only having passed 400, 3 times, in 23 completed innings this year. Having been bowled out for under 200, in nearly half those innings. Under 150, in over a quarter of them.
Even stronger England teams rarely win a series in Australia (one series win there, in 30+ years). Come to that seldom, win a test (apart from 2010/11, only one test win per tour, max, in that time).
Strange how England and NZ's use of foreign descent players bothers you, but not Australia's.

There HAS been a major breakdown at the ECB since it was possible to send 4 S Africans in a top 7.
Partly because NZ have woken up to the SA recruiting ground & partly because the IPL means some Saffas can earn well while remaining S African & not having to resort to county cricket.
Seems to be a major over rating of a transitional Australian team that has two batsmen (Smith & Labuschagne) & two top class bowlers (Cummins & Hazlewood).
A team that hasnt played for a year , lost to India's 3rd eleven last time out , has a coach under pressure from the East coast media and is captained by a 37yo.

If England were sending Cook, Strauss, Trott, Bell, Pietersen, Collingwood and Prior, a top seven all with a 40+ test average. Australia would have cause for concern.

There is a certain amount of defensive WOE IS ME about the England anticipation of the Ashes as though they are going off to face Steve Waugh's team with Ponting, McGrath & Warne in waiting.
We all know Ben Stokes will appear at Brisbane on Dec 8
I see James Pattinson has had to retire from international cricket due to more back problems & Pucovski is recovering from another concussion so is unlikely to reappear.
Australia havent played a Test since January & will have no Test prior to the Ashes now that the Taliban arent coming in November

Not surprised. England had to pick him two years ago, because of his volume of runs at county level. But he's totally one-dimensional and test bowlers/captains quickly worked him out.
Not the first, won't be the last. As one England test batsman with an average of 40+, 2010 debut onwards demonstrates

Not surprised. England had to pick him two years ago, because of his volume of runs at county level. But he's totally one-dimensional and test bowlers/captains quickly worked him out.
England have too many batsmen with weird, quirky or one-sided techniques. It's something that the ECB and counties need to address - with the exception of Root, Pope and Stokes, almost none of them score all around the wicket.

Actually, you can probably add Carse to that small list of potentials - he's a good bowler. But he's not remotely English. I think one of his ancestors once saw Britain from a hot air balloon.

There are only two players in that 'shadow' Lions squad who, if necessary, could come in and contribute to an Ashes tour: Foakes and Mahmood.
I'm really not sure the rest of them are capable of making dents on a decent Aussie side.
Leg-side Sibley is prolific at county level but needs to re-think his technique if he's to stand much chance of success at test level. The new John Crawley (remember him? Almost fell over trying to work every ball into the leg side). Most of the rest, like Crane, have always flattered to deceive.
England will get walloped in Australia unless at least two of their (fit) bowlers step up and take a good volume of wickets.
And somebody has got to work out how to bowl to SmithCheat.

2022 County Championship, reverts to two divisions, with promotion and relegation, as opposed. to the thee conference system, of this year.
Division 1, 10 teams, Division 2, 8 teams.

Opener Dom Sibley has been included in a 14-strong England Lions squad that will shadow the main touring party during the Ashes tour of Australia this winter.
England Lions squad: Tom Abell (Somerset), Josh Bohannon (Lancashire), James Bracey (Gloucestershire), Brydon C Arse (Durham), Mason Crane (Hampshire), Matthew Fisher (Yorkshire), Ben Foakes (Surrey), Alex Lees (Durham), Saqib Mahmood (Lancashire), Liam Norwell (Warwickshire), Matt Parkinson (Lancashire), Dom Sibley (Warwickshire), Jamie Smith (Surrey), Rob Yates (Warwickshire).
The squad will shadow the main 17-man group that was announced on Sunday, and provide warm-up opposition for two intra-squad games and be reserves in case of any injuries.
They will also play a four-day game against Australia A, before returning home on 16 December.

The Lions squad will be travelling with them so they should have about 35 players to pick from.
Will also allow them to play inter group warm up matches amongst themselves as Australia did at Hampshire in 2019 given proper opponents are now longer available on most tours.
Its fairly obvous that Stokes will appear at some point once his finger has recovered from England idiotically making him play in the meaningless ODI's v Pakistan and the first two games of THE HUNDRED.
I understand Queensland has endured 7 (SEVEN) COVID deaths in total so will be more concerned about the England squad which will probably number 100 once the Lions, coaches and families are added.

Only 4 of that squad have a 2021 test average in excess of 30, one of those being Chris Woakes (one match), another Malan (two matches).

Couple of average teams without much batting depth.
But at least the fact that some wouldn't tour if MUMMY couldn't come and watch has been resolved.

England Ashes squad to be named today.
No Stokes, Archer or Stone but all the players who were doubts .... Root, Buttler, Woakes, Bairstow , Malan & Wood ... are available for selection.
Sibley likely to miss out along with Foakes & Bracey (remember him ... wicketkeeper batsman who cant keep or bat) according to Cricinfo.
Leach & Bess to take the spinners spots with M Ali retiring & probably only one of C Overton & S Mahmood going.
Lions squad to shadow the team so England with have about 35 players on hand.
